The Australian National University

TASA 2009 will be held at The Australian National University, located a short walk from Canberra's CBD.

The Australian National University is unique among its contemporaries as the only Australian university established by an Act of Federal Parliament, in 1946. It is also one of Australia's most research-intensive universities, with a high ratio of academic staff to students.

An independent quality review of the University found it ranked among the world's best research universities, with 77 per cent of external assessors ranking ANU as one of the top 50 universities in their field in the world — including 44 per cent who rated ANU in the world's top 25 universities.

A 'green' campus, ANU has more than 10,000 trees within its grounds. In 2003 the University was awarded the Silver Greenhouse Challenge Award at the annual Australian Engineering Excellence Awards, placing it second of 800 signatories.

The University campus is located in Acton and is a short walk from Canberra's CBD. Its numerous amenities and state of the art facilities make it an ideal conference location.

Disabled Parking

A number of parking spaces have been reserved for disabled drivers on campus. Motor vehicles parked in these spots must have a current ACT Disabled Driver sticker (or an equivalent interstate disabled label) clearly displayed.

As the University acknowledges the ACT and interstate parking regulations for disabled persons, drivers displaying a valid permit may park free of charge in the voucher parking areas or for longer than the signposted time in time-limited areas.

The extended time limits are as follows:

  • A maximum of 2 hours if the signposted time limit is 30 minutes or less,
  • Unlimited time if the signposted time limit is more than 30 minutes.

Information on the location of disabled parking spots is available by contacting the Parking Administration Office on T: 61 2 6125 3649 or using the disabled access map.
